Common Questions
How does your billing work?
We bill monthly for your actual usage during the previous month, just like a phone bill.
Because of the large scale involved, the math can be complicated. But the basic idea is simple: we charge one rate for each unique keyword, and a much lower rate for each duplicate keyword.
In STAT, a unique keyword is any distinct search query based on four factors:
- the search term itself (e.g. [best cars] vs. [best trucks])
- the market (US-English vs. Canada-French)
- the device type (desktop vs. smartphone)
- the location (New York vs. Chicago)
In contrast, if you track the same search query for multiple web domains, that’s only counted as a duplicate keyword.
That’s it. No add-ons or premium upsells or confusing credit systems. You only pay for the keywords you track.
It’s all broken down transparently in your account, so you can see exactly what you’re paying at any time.
How do your contracts work? Is there a setup fee?
We usually recommend starting with a month-to-month agreement to make sure that STAT is a perfect fit for you. There’s a $600 setup fee, which covers migration assistance and as much training for your team as you’d like.
We also do annual agreements with zero setup fee. If you switch to annual from a month-to-month agreement, we’ll even credit you for the setup fee you’ve already paid. It’s totally up to you.
How much extra do you charge per user?
Nothing at all! We believe that the best SEO happens when people are free to collaborate. So we never charge per seat.
Every STAT client gets uncapped user accounts for their team and for their clients.
How much do additional search engines cost?
Nothing! You always get daily rankings in Google and Bing for a single per-keyword rate.
What if I only need a thousand keywords? Or what if I need a bazillion?
STAT is built especially for large-scale, daily SERP tracking, and our clients typically track thousands of keywords for multiple markets, locations, and devices.
If you’re only tracking a thousand keywords, feel free to talk to us about how SEO teams of any size can get a competitive advantage with local and mobile tracking. You have plenty of room to think a lot bigger within our $720 monthly minimum.
If your tracking needs are huge, don’t worry—we can handle it. Our clients include some of the world’s largest online brands, tracking thousands of domains and locations globally.
In fact, if you plan on tracking more than 100,000 unique search queries, you should ask us about special pricing and our bulk API services.
How many sites am I able to track?
We never get in your way by putting artificial limits on the number of websites you can track.
Track one site. Track 10,000 sites. It’s A-ok. You’re only charged for the keywords you track, no matter how many sites they are spread across.
In fact, if you track the same keywords against several web domains, you’ll be charged a much lower rate per keyword for every site beyond the first. We call these duplicate keywords.
How many locations can I actually track in STAT?
Our platform is able to track local SERPs at any scale, all across the globe. (In fact, we were the first to be able to do so, and we still do it at a larger scale than anyone else.)
Unlike some of the other guys, we never put an artificial ceiling on how many locations you can track.
Again, you only pay for the keywords you track. You could track 10,000 search terms in one city, or one search term in 10,000 locations, and they would both cost the same.
We support every country, language, and location that Google does—including states, provinces, counties, cities, ZIP codes, postal codes, and so on.
Tell me more about your API.
Absolutely. For security reasons, we have a soft ceiling on API calls, but if you need to do more, we just raise the ceiling for you.
Some of our larger clients choose to use our separate, specialty bulk API services for Adwords ads, full parsed SERP archives, or raw HTML SERPs. These are billed extra by site and are completely separate from our standard, no-holds-barred API.
Who are you people?
Just a bunch of people who love big data and great SEO. Since 2009, we’ve been providing fresh, location-based search data for some of the world’s largest and nimblest online brands and SEO agencies.
