Back from BrightonSEO, I’m pleased as punch about my talk on local SEO analysis—and also feeling just a little bit closer to ABBA.

This spring’s BrightonSEO conference was another big success, with 1,000 tickets snatched up in just 13 minutes. But that’s no surprise for the organizers, as this is always a well-attended event.

This time I was there to speak about our revealing study on local SEO opportunities in the US auto insurance industry, using industry leader Geico as our guinea pig. (If you’re curious, you can take a look at my presentation deck on Slideshare.)

It was fantastic to be included in such an excellent lineup of speakers, including Stacey Cavanagh, Head of Search at Tecmark, Jose Truchado, Director of SEO from Expedia, and Dixon Jones, Marketing Director for Majestic SEO.

Check out all of the presenter’s slide decks on the BrightonSEO site here.

Sharing the stage with ABBA (kind of)

Arriving in Brighton a few days early meant that Jenn, our Marketing and Communications Manager, and I had time to shake off the jet lag, rehearse my talk, and squeeze in a little sightseeing.

We lucked out with some sun while wandering around The Lanesthe pier, and (of course) a few of the local pubs. Lucky for her, we never got around to finding those jellied eels.

The main conference hall was the Brighton Dome, hosting the biggest crowd that I’ve spoken in front of so far. On that very stage, in 1974, ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest, and Jimi Hendrix, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, and Nina Simone have all played there as well. No pressure.

Thankfully, since my talk was right after lunch, I was able to have a sneaky pint beforehand to calm my nerves.

I’m not sure if it was the pint or the rehearsing, but the talk went perfectly and we had very positive feedback.

What’s next?

Right this second, we’re putting the finishing touches on a companion crib sheet to go along with my conference talk. That will be sent out to BrightonSEO attendees very soon.

Later, we’ll also be releasing the full research, detailing how you can use local SERP analysis to uncover SEO opportunities in any industry. That will go out to our own STAT News mailing list, so be sure to subscribe if you want a copy.

Our next big event? That will be SMX Advanced in Seattle, June 11–12. Hope to see you there!
