The paint has dried, the carpet is rolled out, and furniture has started to arrive. We’re just a few weeks away from moving into our new headquarters.
After what seems like an eternity of hard work mixed with hurry up and wait, we’re on the verge of cutting the ribbon at our new company headquarters.
OK, the almost-verge. We still have 18 full days until we’re hanging our Tiger Beat tear-outs on the wall and everyone is counting down the seconds.
All that’s left to do is fill the space with furniture, install some snazzy artwork, and haul the random contents of our desks the 1.7 kilometres (that’s 1.05 miles for friends to the South) to our new digs.
What’s got everyone so excited?
Over the past couple of months, we’ve shared our construction odyssey and all the stuff that’s making this the best office ever! This time, we decided to snag a few of our STAT teammates and ask them what they’re most looking forward to in the new space.
Meeting rooms, as far as the eye can see!
If there’s one thing our current office is short on, it’s space. Finding a quiet location for a meeting or phone call can often require some quick, ninja-like tactics.
“Dedicated rooms for demos! No more trying to find a quiet corner or swooping in and stealing Rob’s office when he goes to refill his coffee.”
— Matt | Enterprise Account Executive
The squeeze is also being felt by our friends in the development team. They hold their daily stand-up in the centre of the open work space and often take over the kitchen for team meetings.
“I’m excited for a space to eat lunch that isn’t doubling as a meeting room, and on the flip side, breakout rooms where we can go work without disturbing everyone else.”
— Tylor | Code Viking
Yep, it’s not unusual for our kitchen to double as a boardroom. You can actually book the kitchen through our company calendar as a meeting space. Sure it’s noisy, crowded, and smells like a cacophony of leftovers — but it’s super close to the coffee machine and the snack drawer. So there’s that.
Did somebody say “party”?
Welcome to the mezzanine. The future hub of STAT activity and the home of our beer and wine taps (did we mention those?). This is also where we’ll gather for our monthly company-wide meeting, Friday afternoon video game tournaments, and a ton of other events.
“We’ll be hosting events like SEOyvr, hackathons, and other fun stuff. I can’t wait to share this space with our community.”
— Cheryl | Marketing Events Manager
It’s going to take a few weeks to get all moved-in, but once we’re in and the dust settles, keep your peepers peeped for announcements on upcoming events.
We have lots to do and more space to do it in
We’ve come a long way in the past few years as a company, and we’re planning to use every single corner of the new headquarters to feed the fire of continued growth and success.
“The most exciting thing is that this represents a turning point for the company. We’ve worked hard to get here, we’ve grown, and we’re going to be doing even more new and amazing things in our new home.”
— Jana | Director of Operations
It’s true. This is a major milestone. We’re moving out of the place where Rob brought in the first STAT employee (shout out to Anish). And the place he demolished and expanded three times to accommodate all us knuckleheads. Sure, this old office holds a lot of memories, but we can’t wait to move and make tons of new ones.
Twenty-first century amenities
And finally, we may have already mentioned that our current office is a little old. In fact, it was built the same year the Titanic sank.
Needless to say, our only form of air-conditioning in the summertime was opening all the windows and eating a shocking amount of ice cream. One of these things is about to change.
“OMG air conditionaaaang!!!”
— Andrew | Client Solutions Engineer
That’s right. Our new headquarters comes with air conditionaaaang. Which will not, however, reduce the quantity of ice cream that we consume. Though it may play a role in the reduction of borderline-inappropriate wardrobe choices on exceptionally hot days.
The finishing touches
As the furniture arrives and the desks are set-up, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress and posting more photos to our STAT HQ Facebook album to document this epic journey.
Thanks for following along with us — we’re so very close to the finish line!
