STAT Search Analytics is growing yet again. We’re looking for savvy and motivated developers (of every experience level) to join our team.

(Please note that the deadline for this job posting has now passed. Thank you to everyone who reached out to us.)

STAT Search Analytics is a cloud-based service that tracks and analyzes high volumes of global and local search engine results in real time. We are growing, and that means we’re looking for software engineers who are experienced with distributed computing and web applications.

You’ll be joining a small team of dedicated developers who use the occasional swear word as they deliver top-notch work. Our Gastown office is a pet-friendly, open, and collaborative work environment. Our company is privately owned and 100% revenue-funded, with a host of medium- and large-enterprise clients.

Here’s what we do

STAT has a multi-component product that includes a data-collection application and a web app for delivering results and analysis tools to our customers. The data collection application is written in Ruby and the web app has a Rails back-end with a front-end written in JavaScript using the Ext.JS framework.

Most of the components in our product have a close connection to our databases — currently MySql and MongoDB — and all members of our technical team work regularly with the databases for development and maintenance purposes. All of our infrastructure runs on AWS and we make use of a variety of AWS services. Our development process is agile-like and we believe in being practical, pragmatic, and customer-focused.

In short: we write a lot of Ruby and JavaScript code delivered on cutting-edge cloud-based technology — and do it all with a healthy dose of common sense.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience with web apps and distributed software.
We don’t expect that you have personally built and deployed entire applications, but you should be familiar with the overall technical landscape and have experience working on some of the components.
  • A good foundation in our key technologies.
That includes a working knowledge of Ruby and JavaScript (preferably both) as well as fundamentals in object-oriented programming, databases, and SQL. Expertise in all of these isn’t necessary, and experience in other, similar languages is fine as long as you’re interested in learning Ruby and JavaScript. Bonus points for hands-on experience with Ext.JS, HTML, and CSS.
  • Eager beavers.
You can see yourself fitting in with people who have lots of energy and genuine excitement for collaborative, agile-like software development. You’re also looking forward to understanding our whole product and how the components you’re working on fit into the big picture. Of course, that means you’re self-motivated and ready to take ownership of tasks and problems.
  • Local talent only.
You should live in the Vancouver metro area (or are already planning on moving here).

Four reasons why you’d want to work with us

  1. You would like to play a big part in growing a young, profitable company.
  2. You want to be challenged with cutting-edge software problems and enjoy solving those problems in a collaborative  environment.
  3. You know there’s more to life than just writing code, and you’re looking for a position that will give you room to live that life.
  4. You’d like to work somewhere where you can wear your old hoodie — or your crisp new suit, if that’s what snaps your bean — and nobody is going to mind.

Here’s how to apply

First, check out our website to get a better idea of what we do. Then, explore the limited functionality demo of our front-end application at codex.getSTAT.com.

If you like what you see and think you’d be a good fit, send your application to careers@getSTAT.com. Please write us a cover letter (or cover email) explaining what about the job and our company interests you, and how your background fits with the position. If you have a Github account, or other online examples of your code, that would be a nice touch!
